Several years ago, I stumbled across a post -- it might been on Gizmodo -- about the world's most expensive coffee maker. I was fascinated by it and went out hunting down videos and information on just how this magical fusion of precision, splittling-the-atom level machinerey and old-world artisan craftsmanship of that blind guy from Kung-Fu worked. It was called a Siphon Bar. As you can imagine with a coffee maker that costs upwards of $20,000, there are gonna be a ton of thes...

“A-B-C. A – Always. B – Be. C – Closing. Always be closing. ALWAYS…BE…CLOSING! A-I-D-A. Attention, Interest, Decision, Action. Attention - Do I have you attention? Interest - Are you interested? I know you are, because it's f--- or walk! You close or you hit the bricks. Decision - Have you made your decision for Christ? And Action. A-I-D-A, get out there!” – Best…speech…ever! I’ll have you know that as I write this, I am approaching five – FIVE!!! – full twenty-four hour persiods where I have not watched one single, RGB pixel or frame droplet of television goodness. Since around 11 PM on Tuesday night in Myrtle Beach, I have been so on the go, that there hasn’t been even a moment to sit down and veg. This proves that it is possible to not only survive, but thrive without a steady stream of scripted and r...

Yesterday started out normal enough, but by 11:00 AM it had spiraled into a searingly painful, one-act, tragi-drama starring myself and my HP laptop entitled, L'ordinateur et le café: c'est tragique! (Clearly an event so heart-wrenching it can only be fully expressed en Francais.)
Dana and Lauryn had been out of town in Alabama visiting Dana’s family, and finally returned home Friday night. ...

...is totally NOT Folger’s in your cup. At home, we have an awesome, super-wonderful, borderline magic fairy and elves powered Saeco Royal Professional super-automatic espresso machine. It grinds, tamps, brews and disposes of beans one delicious cup at a time.
In Alabama, Dana’s sister and her husband drink coffee not so much. So, when we arrived their coffee cupboards were desolate and bare. Miah volun...

Straying off-topic a bit here... But my partner and I were talking today about this and that and the other and somehow we got onto the topic of the cardboard heat shield thingy surround his paper cup of coffee. Which he soon finished and stacked next to the other 4 cups on his desk. Whose ultimate end-journey in life will be to get thrown into the trash. (And hopefully before the ants come.) And how much waste is generated by all of these heat shield thingies ...

We already know that as a White Person, I am predisposed to liking coffee.
I can’t even remember when it started to be honest. Like many people, I’m sure that my gateway drug to enjoying this yuck-bitter-bitter, eh-it’s-not-too-bad, hey-this-is-kinda-good, I-must-haves-you-my-precious! drink was Coffee-mate Irish Cream and Hazelnut flavored creamers...

Last night we went out to the World Market, ostensibly to cash in a punch card for a free 12-ounce bag of coffee beans (the Saeco is insatiable and must be fed a regular diet of quality Columbian beanery).
But after I’ve finished explaining to Therese (is the last “e” silent or not? We’ll likely never know... ) why I was entitled to the free coffee and then she initiates this bizarre, ritualistic procedure of first ringing up a coffee and then re...

Today finds me jet-setting off to luxurious Fort Lauderdale, Florida where I’ll be attending an event this afternoon to experience Runco’s new Window Wall TV system. (Thanks to Lauren at Caster Comm for the hook-up! And thanks to US Air for the bump to First Class! Oh, seat 1A, you make me want to be a better man!) Also excellent is that Runco is putting me up in a hotel that starts with “Trump” instead of my usual “Econo,” “Sleep,” or “Da...

Sometimes you can just tell that it’s gonna be a good day (whether or not you need to grab your AK as Mr. Cube so eloquently put it years ago...). Today has all the makings of being a good – dare I say “great”? – one. Started offwith seeing that my site has a new member, someone who I didn’t directly invite or personally know. (Welcome, Mark! Good to have you!)
Then I opened a brand new bag of espresso beans and mad...

My friend, Dan, called me last night. (For the record, Dan and I have shared *many* movies together without the "we're just Bros" empty seat between us.) Turns out that he's in the market for a new coffee machine.
In an e-mail Dan wrote, "Shamefully, I am spending way too much time on researching Espresso machines. I would spend less time researching a new car. 'I want the Maserati, I want the Maserati. Research over!'"
And we're not just talk...
